Vineyard Theatre is offering a 6-week playwriting workshop with Nicky Silver, from October 19-November 23, 2015.

NICKY SILVER is the author of many plays including THE LYONS, PTERODACTYLS, FAT MEN IN SKIRTS, TOO MUCH SUN, RAISED IN CAPTIVITY and THE FOOD CHAIN. He is the recipient of The Kesselring Prize and The Oppenheimer Award, as well as four nominations each for the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards. His plays have been produced on and off-Broadway, most notably at Vineyard Theatre, as well as across Europe and both North and South America.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

There is no single way to write a play. There are, in fact, as many ways into a play as there are playwrights. This class will help the playwright find his or her own voice by experimenting with style and structure; a practical exploration of character, genre and action. Through exercises and critique, we expand the playwright’s artistic vocabulary and move from process to product, all the while helping the writer away from theatrical inhibition and toward joy. Students will be expected to work at home on assignments that will be read and discussed in the class. The ideal candidates are playwrights looking to sharpen their skills, discover possibilities, and expand their theatrical vocabulary.

The class will meet on consecutive Monday nights from October 19 – November 23, 2015, from 6:00-10:00PM in Midtown, Manhattan.

The cost for the workshop is $300. We are able to offer a few need-based scholarships.

Please note that class size will be kept small (6-10 people). Applications will be considered as they are received, and the first 40 applications will be guaranteed consideration. All applicants selected to participate will be notified before October 1st.
