SYNOPSIS

​​Camp Winona is anxious to be ranked number one by the American Camp Association this year, but they’re running into some problems — the buildings are falling apart, the campers won’t stop screaming about death, and the Rich Girls Cabin has discovered there might be a ghost haunting the campgrounds. The Haunting At Camp Winona is a dark comedy that asks what it means to come of age in a messed up world where nobody gets out alive.

Mara Nelson-Greenberg’s work has been developed at Playwrights Horizons, Clubbed Thumb, SPACE on Ryder Farm, EST/Youngblood, Berkeley Rep, and ACT Theatre, among others. Her play Do You Feel Anger? premiered at the 2018 Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville and was produced at the Vineyard Theatre in 2019. She is a former member of Youngblood at Ensemble Studio Theater and Clubbed Thumb’s Early Career Writers Group, and a recipient of the Vineyard Theatre’s 2023 Paul Vogel Playwriting Award. She received her MFA from UC-San Diego under Naomi Iizuka.

Director

Sam Pinkleton most recently directed Cole Escola’s downtown sensation Oh, Mary! (transferring to Broadway in Summer 2024) and choreographed Stephen Sondheim’s final musical Here We Are at The Shed. His other work as a director includes the world premiere of Noah Diaz’ You Will Get Sick with Linda Lavin (Roundabout Theater Company), a big gay production of The Wizard of Oz (ACT San Francisco), the undefineable club experience Untitled DanceShowPartyThing (Virgin Voyages – with Ani Taj), a revival of Liz Swados’ youth-driven spectacular Runaways (City Center Encores / Shakespeare in the Park), and a party adaptation of the Go-Go’s musical Head Over Heels (Pasadena Playhouse – with Jenny Koons). As a choreographer his work includes the Broadway productions of Macbeth; Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 (Tony Nomination); Amélie, Significant Other, Machinal, and Heisenberg as well as the original productions of Jeanine Tesori and David Henry Hwang’s Soft Power (The Public Theater/CTG) and Anne Washburn’s Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play (Playwrights Horizons). His work can be seen in  Joshua Oppenheimer’s upcoming apocalyptic musical feature film The End, starring Tilda Swinton, and the FX Limited Series Dying for Sex, starring Michelle Williams. Nominated for Tony, Drama League, and Lortel Awards. He does not own any dance shoes.
